Flashpoint
In May last year, whilst in Krakow for a family wedding, my sister and I spotted a knitted bike (www.flickr.com/photos/heather_samuel/6549812379/in/set-72…). Apparently, the phenomenon is known as yarnbombing – you go somewhere, you knit something, you leave it in place for others to enjoy. Well, this discovery planted a little seed in my head, which, almost a year later has grown into flashpointing – you go somewhere, you *write* something, you leave it in place for others to enjoy.
A couple of weeks ago, I suggested the idea to Calum Kerr, the director of National Flash Fiction Day, (nationalflashfictionday.co.uk/) as something flash-fiction writers could do in the run-up to the event on May 16th. He agreed that the idea was crazy, but that it might be just crazy enough to work. So, he set about putting together a team to administer the project. That team now consists of Alex Thornber, Rachael Dunlop and Emily Cleaver, and between them they’ve done a cracking job of getting the blog up and running.
So, if you fancy doing something a little bit crazy with your flash-fiction writing, head on over to the blog, check out the How to join in page and get flashpointing! (nffdflashpoints.blogspot.co.uk/)
(Originally, I though of using the name ‘flashbombing’, but figured it might cause one too many security alerts. The name ‘flashpoints’ was Calum’s idea.)
